Andrea Lamberti to Assume Presidency of AIA New York

Rafael Viñoly Architects Partner Andrea Lamberti, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, NCARB, will begin a new role on January 1, 2002, as the president of the AIA New York, the largest AIA component in the country. Lamberti’s new role was celebrated this past Thursday at AIA New York’s 2022 Board Inaugural, where Immediate Past President Kenneth A. Lewis, AIA, passed the gavel to her. In her new position, Lamberti will set the direction for the organization in the coming year, with plans to encourage practitioners to leverage the profession’s capacity for lifelong learning to do better, working together to build a more just and equitable future.

Lamberti’s 2022 Presidential Theme for AIA New York is ‘Just Practice,’ which supports the learning of several issues, with the goal of better understanding how a just practice can improve equity outcomes across communities. She invited AIANY members to come together to learn about how public funds are distributed for civic and community infrastructure and how incentives for private development can be crafted to result in equitable distribution across the city. She called for the chapter’s membership to continue to focus on issues surrounding affordable housing and homelessness and to continue the work outlined in the chapter’s statement calling on architects to cease the design of spaces of incarceration. Noting how resilience continues to elude us, Lamberti also called on chapter members to deepen their understanding on the adoption of a greener living infrastructure – one that can not only contribute to a better and more sustainable planet but also to a more just and fair realm for historically underserved communities.

Since joining the firm 24 years ago, Andrea Lamberti has been involved in every aspect of Rafael Viñoly Architects’ practice, including project conceptualization to project delivery, marketing, and business development. She has led a wide-range of projects through all phases of work, from master planning and brief development to scheme design, detail design and construction administration. Her experience with clients in the education, research and healthcare; cultural, performing arts and civic; and commercial and corporate sectors has taken her across the United States and around the world. Recent projects include the master plan for New York University Abu Dhabi, the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, and Southampton Hospital. Lamberti also regularly represents the firm in the public sphere, sharing lessons learned and the work of the practice at conferences and in public forums.
