Bassam Komati OEAB

Director

Bassam Komati has been a Project Manager and Architect at Viñoly for a decade. Mr. Komati is involved in projects from their initial design stages–assisting Rafael Viñoly with development of concepts–through work on 3-D BIM models, traditional drawings, and physical models. He has developed innovative technical and sustainable solutions for several large-scale projects and is currently Project Manager for a secure, sustainable, and growth-flexible Corporate Headquarters campus in the United States.

In his early days at the firm, Mr. Komati worked on several large competitions, including the Battersea Power Station Master Plan in London, United Kingdom and the New Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California, USA, both of which resulted in commissions. With a skill set that includes visualization, master planning, and sustainable design, he assisted Mr. Viñoly in designing the Battersea development as a self-sufficient community centered on an adaptive reuse, zero-carbon energy plant and the hospital as a modular plan with generous roof gardens and a central atrium.

He expanded on his experience in healthcare design as Project Architect for the University of Pennsylvania Medicine Complex’s latest phase: South Tower Pavilion. His main responsibilities included collaborating with medical planners, MEP engineers, and structural engineers on the design development; overseeing the design of life safety requirements with the code consultant, and coordinating permit drawings and submissions to the Department of Health with the client or contractor.

Mr. Komati’s largest built project is New York University Abu Dhabi, for which he relocated to Abu Dhabi during design and construction to develop sitework, parking, and basement design, undertake planning and site analysis, and coordinate infrastructure and landscape work by the consultant team. Mr. Komati’s 3-D BIM models aided the client in evaluating choices for sustainable, future development of the campus.
