Marcos Blanes has over 18 years of professional experience in both private and public sectors and has been involved in the concept, design, and delivery of a number of award-winning buildings in the United Kingdom. Mr. Blanes typically leads projects from concept through to completion, overseeing large, multidisciplinary teams, leading coordination groups, and working closely with the client and contractor to coordinate the delivery of Mr. Viñoly’s designs. For all projects he employs his expertise in directing complex projects with multiple clients and statutory bodies in London.
Mr. Blanes is currently leading the redevelopment of Marble Arch Place, a landmark 37,160-square-meter (400,000-square-foot) mixed-use development in central London, through the design, tender, and construction stages. He also led an Outline Planning Application for the Battersea Power Station Development Company, ensuring a sustainable, long-term future for the Cringle Dock site in providing a new residential development over a modern waste transfer station in the Battersea Park / Vauxhall / Nine Elms area. He is currently working on the schematic design of this 167,250-square-meter (1,800,260-square-foot) project.
Additionally, Mr. Blanes led the team for the delivery of the award-wining 20 Fenchurch Street, a 37-story office tower in the City with a renowned three-story landscaped public Sky Garden and observation deck on level 35. The design incorporates several sustainable features, which succeed in wedding the high-rise building form with a highly-efficient structural and operational agenda.
He has also been closely involved with the firstsite:newsite, Visual Art Facility in Colchester, UK as well as the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford. Both projects are sited near historically significant and listed buildings, and required sensitive design and planning to avoid disturbing the nature of their immediate contexts.
