Cleveland Museum of Art Milestone: Atrium Opening

The Ames Family Atrium at the Cleveland Museum of Art opened to the public to great fanfare. The opening represents a significant milestone in the ongoing renovation and expansion that is scheduled for final completion in Fall 2013.

The Ames Family Atrium is the heart of the new design, a great, light- filled piazza sheltered by a soaring glass roof with a gently curved profile that spans from a new administrative wing. Supported by thin mullions, the roof appears to float above the original building. The space will be central to the museum experience by helping orient visitors and serves as a vibrant civic space that enhances the museum’s cultural identity across the country and beyond.
